How did you start your business?
I joined the family business of wholesale and retail of carpets and fabrics in 1991. I then thought of the hospitality market as being a potential business for the supply of carpets, fabrics and furniture. After extensive studies based on the database gathered, I decided to specialize in the high end quality furnishings for hotels.
When you first started your business, were you expecting that it would become not only your full-time occupation, but also a growing company?
Yes, as it was my goal since the very beginning and it was planned from day one. However, I should say that the growth was faster and larger than expected in the hospitality business which has helped a lot in our rapid growth in Jordan and the expansion in the MENA and Gulf region.
What is the most rewarding thing you have accomplished and why do you cite it above all your other accomplishments?
Le Royal Hotel in Beirut in 2002! It was a big challenge to win the tender for furnishing the entire hotel. It was a keen competition against many international companies, and it was an opportunity to prove that a Jordanian company could achieve what international companies can offer if not better.
The Intercontinental Aqaba Hotel was another rewarding accomplishment, the competition was intense. We have won the tender amongst international companies and got an award for distinguished and timely execution.
What were the biggest challenges you faced as an entrepreneur and how did you overcome them?
To gain the trust of the client’s. It was very difficult to convince the client’s that we, as a local company, could perform and meet the requirements of international standards. We have overcome this problem by delivering and maintaining the highest standards of quality at all times.
What do you think it takes to be successful in the industry your company competes in?
The measure of success lies within consistency; knowing your capacity and not exceeding it, looking into details before executing and never spare any cost to meet the standards of quality you are required to deliver.
What advice would you give to those contemplating starting their own business?
Again knowing your business requirements, planning, strategies and never be greedy.
What is the question I did not ask, but should have?
What are your future plans?
Our target is to become one of the three biggest finishing and furnishing contractors in the world, not only in the region. Our goal is incorporated in every step of the way to accomplish and achieve it by meeting the highest possible standards, thriving to excel and committing into delivering the best service to our clients.
